in Table 2 it seems that when using a shield his defense is used as primary and only when using the weapon without shield defense weapon is as primary, I guess that would explain why the blocks were higher only with the sword already she def has a greater than the shield

For axe users with skill 10 points higher than shield. :p
how is the best solution?

crystaline axe + shield or just crystaline axe...
(since crystaline axe has the best def axe weapon)

I checked with 100 axe and 90 shield:

With axe only you will only block one creature (versus two) and reduce damage by 29 on average.

With axe and mastermind you will block two creatures and reduce damage by 37 on average (or 72 if two creatures are hitting you).

I would definitely wear a shield!

Im having some problems to achieve the perfect train with gargoyles.

In full def the 1% is taking much more time when i train in balanced,
but in balanced the gargoyle goes yellow fast.
the shield seens to be increasing very normal (like its not affected by the balanced/full def variations)

in lvl 150 i will test on monk with better items.

Have you tried training with damaged worker golems or monks? I have not trained a knight at a higher level so I am unsure of which would be better. As a paladin I tried training with young sea serpents and it worked pretty well.

This was new to me and this important fact wasn't mentioned in the research article? When using a one-handed weapon the character can only block one creature simultaneously? I thought you were able to block two attacks no matter the setup: nothing equiped, one-handed weapon, a shield, two-handed weapon, one-handed weapon + shield.

Other questions:
- When using a weapon (for instance a sword-typed), no matter one or two-handed, the "defence skill" is taken from the sword skill value instead of the shielding skill as concluded in the article. Would therefore using a sword ring (sword skill +5) increase the defence?

I should have double checked (been a while since I did these tests). You are right, you can block two monsters with a weapon.

Sword ring should help increase the defense when using a two-handed sword. It has been a while since I tested so can't remember clearly anymore. If it didn't, I would consider that a bug.

I did run some test on my own and wrote a report about that can be read here ---> http://www.cuetaraarmy.com/t1503-optimization-of-knight-s-sword-weapon-setup

A bit poor testing but I think I verified good enough that melee skill increasers (like a sword ring) gives improving shielding ability when a weapon is used as shield.
